Shove:

Oh my god skate dates.

Rebel:

Oh my god, I cannot believe this gate day is finally back. Are you so excited, babe,

Shove:

I can't believe it. Season Three,

Rebel:

season three of skating. This is insane. So escape date is a podcast by two roller skaters who fell in love. And they wanted to create something super cool where they could talk about not just roller skating, but everything else that's happening in the world. And so that is what skate date is.

Shove:

It sure is. I'm shove and I'm rebel. And together we are shovel.

Rebel:

Can you dig it? Yes, I can. Nice. Now, if you want to know a little bit about shove shove is like the cat's meow. She is the spiciest and the hottest pepper that you've ever met. And she's beautiful. And she is super fashionable. And that's what you can know about shove and that's why you should listen to skate day because she's so awesome.

Shove:

What is this season one? Are we doing this again? Yeah, let's do it. I had the time like sit down and write last time.

Rebel:

I just thought of it just now.

Shove:

Sure you did. Anyway, it's rebel is the cookie zany white girl in the back of the story that is shove because I am the main character of all your lives just kidding. No, we are all the main characters are all our lives because we're all important. Rebel is beautiful. Pil hauntingly gorgeous hauntingly gorgeous, weird and kooky and keeps me on my feet daily.

Rebel:

Cookie twice that means I'm double because

Shove:

he triple cookie. Nice. She's cookie for the cookie.

Rebel:

I am cookie for the cookie specifically chocolate chip cookies that are salted. Hmm yum. Love them.

Shove:

Oh, it's a Merry Christmas Happy Kwanzaa Happy New Year and a happy birthday to me and Martin Luther King Jr. We are back and we took way longer than we thought and I am not mad. But here we are. We're back. Yay.

Rebel:

We're super excited to be here. We really wanted to take some time and figure out Like what our plan was for the season, and not just jump into it and have zero plan, which is kind of been what we've done for the last two seasons. So we're trying to be a bit more organized, which is why it took like, I think one more week than last time, but it's fine. So I wanted to start this off by kind of just letting you know a little bit more about what you can expect this season. So do you want me to tell them?

Shove:

Go ahead, bam.

Rebel:

Okay, so we're gonna have three breaks throughout the season. And so the first break is going to be a spring break. So we're going to have like a one week spring break, the second break is going to be our big, big break. And that's our summer break. And that's going to be we're going to take off June and July, because we're going to be doing a lot a lot, a lot of skating stuff and other stuff that we probably won't have time to be recording episodes escape date. And then the final break we're going to take is that one that we just got back from, which is the last two weeks of December, and the first like week or so of January. So that's what you can expect you can expect other than that episodes every week.

Shove:

Like the boring stuff, though, like we'll talk about when we get to Tom the exciting stuff. What did we get rid of? Okay, so

Rebel:

we got rid of a lot of segments.

Shove:

I just realized some people aren't gonna like this. Oh, yeah. Well, so don't get too excited. But we're taking some stuff away. And then we're replacing it with some stuff. So you'll be okay. What are we taking away?

Rebel:

So we are taking away find your skate date, and we're also taking away deer shovel. And we're also taking away the fake ad section. I'm so sorry. I know a lot of people like the fake ads. But why are we taking those away, baby?

Shove:

Alright, so a lot of those things will fake ads we're taking away because it does take a lot of energy. And we were like, We don't want to, you know, repeat ourselves.

Rebel:

It was taking so much time. Like she is even exaggerating, like she is not she's selling she's underselling how much time that the fake ads took the fake ads, were taking us longer than planning the rest of the episode. We're just like, You know what, we're not gonna do fake ads, unless we have real ads, and then we'll do real ads, but like no more.

Shove:

So we'll either get the ads that people hire us for, or we will, you know, promote our own stuff. And yeah, so that's that. Also, when it comes to find your skeet D, along with your shovel, we have to rely on emails, and we don't get too many of them. They're very, like, we'll have one one week and then not the next and we'll go three weeks without them, then we'll get a bunch. And we can't really depend on that. Because it's what you call it user based.

Rebel:

Yeah, it's just user, right? We needed the users to interact in order to create the content. And we wanted to be able to be a podcast that you don't have to interact with if you don't want to. And we felt like at the end that we are kind of like guilting you into responding. And I don't love that. And I didn't want you to feel bad for not like sending in a deer shovel.

Shove:

So we will want to talk to you. So now we will be doing what was asked in the comments on YouTube, we will be choosing a comment from the previous episode, and we'll respond to it on the next one. So that way, we'll still have that engagement and there's not that pressure of writing in. So that's super awesome. So that's how we'll interact with y'all now.

Rebel:

Yeah, and that way we can also carry on the topic from the last week. If there's anything else we wanted to add on or like elaborate on or go in depth with, we can do that in the beginning of each episode. So each of us are going to pick a comment from the YouTube or from the Instagram. And then we're going to just talk a little bit more and respond to that comment. So if you want to comment you want to talk with us, then that's the way to do it is by commenting on the YouTube or on our Instagram,

Shove:

it'd be what was my idea to replace, and your skate date.

Rebel:

Okay, so this is I'm obsessed with this idea. And what we're doing instead of find your skate date is we're doing a segment that is called Trick of the Week. And not me, not me the trick, but like roller skating trick, like some sort of trick that someone has done, that we see on social media or in IRL that we record. And then we're going to be like, Wow, we're so amazed by this, then we're going to talk about it. And we're gonna post that on our socials. And we'll also put it on the YouTube so you can see what we're talking about. Yeah, I'm excited. And then what's the final segment that we're doing baby? Do you want me to tell them because I forgot what it's called. Okay, so it's called obsession. It's alright you named it obsession. Okay. Unless you want to name it something else. emanations is like obsessions. Fine. Okay,

Shove:

obsessions.

Rebel:

Okay, so our final segment, what is our final segment that I chose

Shove:

called? Also named. It's called obsessions. So whatever we're obsessed with that week, because it changes weekly. It really does cray cray. And we're obsessed with lots of things. Maybe it will help you become obsessed with something new. Or you can geek out of like, the things we're both obsessed at the same time with. So super excited.

Rebel:

Yeah, so an obsession can be like a TV show. It can be a song, it could be a playlist, it could be an artist, it could be a clothing brand, it could be an item of clothing, it could be an activity, like it can literally be anything. And I'm really excited about this segment, because we get obsessed with a bunch of random shit. And I think that you're gonna love it, it's gonna be an insight into us that you don't really know. Alright, so that's it. That's what skate dates gonna look like this season. So

Shove:

boring updates over bait and how have you been?

Rebel:

I've been good. I am excited that it is January. I'm excited that it's a new episode of skate dt. And yeah,

Shove:

I am not excited that it's now Aquarius season. Love you Aquarius is but um, I missed Capricorn Capricorns was poppin off.

Unknown:

It was so fun. So

Shove:

my birthday month, it doesn't feel like it gets to celebrate birthday stuff anymore. And I am officially on week three of Prozac. That's right over break, they added Prozac to my list. So now I'm on two medications. For my craziness. It's a lot of side effects. Not a lot, but like the non Nausea is like, oh, it sucks, sucks so bad. But it's not enough to make me want to get off of it, I'm gonna hang tight to at least week five to really make a final decision. I also feel like I'm more tired. But that could be a good thing. Because I'm going to bed wet before one before to all the

Rebel:

time, you're actually going to bed at like a decent hour. But I'm also like struggling to

Shove:

get up in the morning of like sleeping in more and more and like randomly falling asleep. So there's that. But we'll see I'm gonna hang in there. Because if the benefits outweigh, like those stupid side effects that aren't even serious, that serious, then I'll be fine. Now I'm getting to really understand when people are like, oh, yeah, like the medications the worst part because with my previous medication, I didn't have like that experience, really. So now I'm really feeling like why it can be hard to have to be on an antidepressant that takes like a month or two to kick in, before you even know if it's right for you. And then if it's not right for you, you have to start that journey all over again. So we'll see mental health check.

Rebel:

Yeah, and I'm still in therapy still on Adderall. And I love it. But now I can tell very clearly when I haven't taken my medication, whereas I feel like before, I couldn't really tell as much. I don't know whether I'm becoming dependent on it. I'm just becoming more aware of it. But like when I don't take my meds I am all the fuck over the place. I am all over the place. It's wild.

Shove:

I think that's good to recognize. Because if you think you're fine, then you're like, oh, I don't really need it. Like it's fine. I only need it for these days. And then you're like, oh, wait, there's definitely a difference here.

Rebel:

Well, I thought I was fine without it. And then I was off of it for like a week. And then I did like 20 crafts. And I was like, Wait, why am I only doing crafts and literally nothing else. Like I like couldn't even focus on my regular work. I was like just doing crafts, like buying stuff for craftsmen doing work crafts, and it was like, Hmm, interesting. And I didn't even notice. And then I was like, you've done so many crafts. Are you off? You're out?

Shove:

Yeah. And then what about skating how you've been feeling about skating.

Rebel:

Um, so I took a little bit of a break. I wasn't really doing a lot of skating. And then I actually joined a choreography class with Candice Hyden. And I'm totally obsessed with it. And it has been just sparking so much joy. And it's reminded me that I want to get back to going to the rink and stuff. I tend to like, go through periods where I just like totally go all out. And then I just like, chill out and like barely do it. And then so I'm just like trying to get into some sort of like neutral like, just like regular territory where I spend a regular amount of time skating and a regular amount of time working. And like it's kind of even ish. But yeah, so I'm doing that and I fucking love it. Like it's so great.

Shove:

I love that.

Rebel:

I'm obsessed with that. I am getting progress on my dips and are stoked about that. And I got new wheels over the break and I'm there like no wait sliders. They're like very vain. Yeah, they're like free school sliders. And I absolutely love them. They're the best. So yeah, why I really like skating right now. I'm into it. What about you, Ben?

Shove:

I'm in a skate limbo right now. And at first, I felt really guilty about it. And I feel like, okay, like, I'm okay. Because I know, I'm just like in this weird like, hibernation. It's like, I'm pretending I'm on the East Coast just snowed in and not able to skate. But I could totally skate at any moment. I've been thinking that I need to be more like Evelyn like Evelyn IV and be like, there's one day a week I skate. So like she escaped every Wednesday. And she like, does that skate school with her friend and everything, friends and everything. And I'm like, she's like, Yeah, if I haven't scheduled skate day that I know, at least, like it's Wednesday, I have to skate. And I'm like, that's kind of genius. So I've been thinking that maybe I need to have like a designated day that I'm like, I have to put my skates on that day. Like, even if it's just to like, like, skate to anywhere. Just put them on for a little bit. Even in the backyard. Like, I think that way. It's like, I know for sure, just like, I remember to water my plants, because every Saturday, I water my plants. So like, putting it on my thing, like on my to do list. So even if I don't, if I feel all scattered or tired, it's just like, oh, no, I have to do this to to get me like just in the groove. Because I definitely need to, like make that time for it. Because especially now at school is back. I don't know, I just haven't been. I just haven't been putting the time into it lately. But I think it's just like, okay, like, you don't always have to like, keep skating, keep skating, like you should skate. Like when you're like No, I really want to like, well, you know, I think it's like comes in waves. Yeah, definitely.

Rebel:

And I mean, like, at this point, we're both about to hit like year five, ya know, like, we've been skating in May, it'll be five years that we've been skating. So of course, there's going to be ups and downs. Like of course, there's going to be big segments of time when you totally skate all the time. And other times when you don't, and I also think it comes with like, like how busy your life is, too. Yeah, you know, like, what if you're in school and you're working and you, you know, are doing X, Y and Z. That's physical. I think that there's definitely an impact there for sure.

Shove:

Definitely. All right. Are you ready to jump in this episode?

Rebel:

Yeah, let's do it. Let's go to the real world first. Oh, by the way, we're still doing the real world in the real world because we'll never stop that. It's the best part about it. Never say never, never say never. Never say never okay. It's the real world.

Shove:

Yeah, real shit goes down. In the real world,

Rebel:

we talk about real things. Not that roller skating isn't real, but just like things that are outside of Rollerskating so today during the real world, because lots of people have been asking about this, we're gonna give a little spotlight to shove and talk about Capricorn season and birthday and all the things we did and how it went and everything so shove, why don't you take it away?

Shove:

All right, so I like to go big on my birthday. And like, the pandemic was really hard on me like we're still in the pandemic but like, the like last year's birthday was so hard for me because like, I am a total diva brat about my birthday and I know I usually like have a reputation for throwing amazing birthday get togethers and not being able to do that or see me my friends like I saw one friend and then hung out with rebel and rebel did the best she could to make it a good birthday it still is very like mer and like rebel knows that because she's had two full birth is like that. Um,

Rebel:

the worst the worst.

Shove:

So this year, I was just like, I was able to take it in my hands and like get an air b&b and like get friends together which definitely Israeli to do that but let me go back to where I was gonna go with that as I like to go super big on my birthdays because like I know how short life can be and like I tried to like celebrate like that I haven't given up each year like even though I've tried to give up in the past. So for me it's like a big deal and it's my birthday because it's like a way to prove myself that like I made it through all the bullshit. So this year I got to go back on my grind I'm making it super amazing and I found this rainbow get away. Oh my god, it's such a beautiful house in a beautiful location and Palm Springs. Oh my god, like honestly like it's to the point where like, you know like a lot of people have like places he like every year we vacation and bla bla bla like, I would love for this to be like our vacation spot like every spring well We can get a group of people we do the remote getaway we swam, because it was definitely too cold to get in the pool, but it's cool, but the jacuzzi was amazing. Um, but yeah, so like, I don't know the rainbow get away each room is like monochromatic, one color and our room was like the honeymoon suite. Oh, it was gorgeous with all pink

Rebel:

and fuzzy walls, fuzzy floors and fuzzy ceiling, but they were all pink. Yeah, there was a neon pink color. So cute. There was pink. Everything was pink. It was awesome.

Shove:

Yeah. And then like, there was a purple room and there was a yellow room and a green room. And I was like, amidst it was all midcentury style, like in the living room. Like, it was just like goals. Like it was like, ignited that fuel. Like I want to own a house one day just to have it like art deco like amazingness like colorful, like something like you walk in and you're just happy. Like, I want to live in a house that I can like, create like, I want to live in art gallery, like a what do they call it? Like?

Rebel:

An interactive? Yeah, an

Shove:

interactive museum? Yes. But yeah, and then Palm Springs. Amazing.

Rebel:

I did not know.

Shove:

So I knew a lot of queer people. Like I was like, There's queer people go to Palm Springs the party. Like I knew this was a thing. And I knew it wasn't just like, Dana shore like, type of deal.

Rebel:

Yeah. Even though I always secretly wanted to go to Dinosaur but yeah, why secretly? I've always wanted I mean, not secretly. This like real? Yeah.

Shove:

But um, yeah. So like, you go, and it's like, we're people everywhere. And it's like, accepting and like, I don't know, it was just like, awesome. And like, so small, get things to do like awesome bars and stuff.

Rebel:

And there was so much good shopping there. Yeah, cute place.

Shove:

boutiques like the coffee like, the so good. vintage stores. Like everything was awesome. The food was great. There's like no real cars out like it was. So it was so cool. Like, I know, we would never go there in the summer. Of course. It was absolutely beautiful. It was so beautiful. Like the mountains. Like everything was great about it.

Rebel:

Yeah. And I just really liked that we were able to because we went with like a pretty small group of people. So everyone was being safe. So we just kind of like stayed with our own group. And we, you know, made it happen by ourselves. And I thought, I don't know. It just it was so nice. It was like way, way way nicer than I ever could have dreamed it would be. So it was so awesome. Rebel

Shove:

was the DDA and yeah, we which means like, we had to have one person in the trunk of my car. So I felt like this is some sketchy shit. I did my early 20s Yeah, but it was like, you know, they were safe. I was fine. I drive like crossover. So it wasn't like there were too close trunk like, like a like a kidnapped person. Or just like chillin like they were just sitting there like a van with more room than anyone. Yeah.

Rebel:

But yeah, I was a DD and we went, we ate a lot of really good food. Dinner was we went to multiple Tiki bars. We went to gay bars.

Shove:

Oh my god, we were just this restaurant was so fancy. Like we walk in and everyone's staring at us. Because we're the most extra dress like so extra. All of my friends know how to bring it. We attract people like yourself. So like, we're all looking like we just walked in and it was like, not necessarily like what the hell people probably thought like, I think it'd be like,

Rebel:

Yeah, we left. We were fancy. But we were like, colorful, edgy. Color color rolls. Yeah. Like she was wearing something that looked like a silky dry

Shove:

bootleg silky dress by sugar thrills. And then yeah, just everyone, everyone looked great. It looks so good. We sit down at this giant round table. And I look to my right, and I see there's like a purse slash coat hanger thing. And I'm like, Oh, that's nice. We all hang our stuff there. And I'm like, Huh. And then the server comes and then I see him like grab the napkin off the table and lay it in one person's lap and goes around. I was like, Oh, this is a Bougie established.

Rebel:

Yeah, I didn't realize I was taking us to a fine dining experience.

Shove:

three course meals. Everyone approved it. It

Rebel:

wasn't just me all

Shove:

got a three course it was you know what, though? It was cheaper than the Madonna in Yeah, it was

Rebel:

cheaper than the Madonna in Madonna and was. Oh my gosh, I was like

Shove:

that's why we don't go all the time. Yeah, once a year. Yeah, we just kind of like put ourselves in debt for this birthday, but it's fine.

Rebel:

It's fine.

Shove:

It's 30 it's like a good number. You gotta go hard.

Rebel:

I mean, I just am imagining that it was like last year's birthday and this year's birthday combined.

Shove:

It was and I felt like I want to like perfect people. It was cool because I got to know other likes. Um, people better like, you know, like how you have like friends and then you have like your friends friend and you're like, Oh, we're cool, but I don't really hang out with you. Like, so I feel like, Ah, she's my tattoo artist and like becoming even more and more of a friend like every, like few months or so right. And then her best friend Alyssa, who does like our tooth gyms she like I've never hung out with her that much like we have to she has a pair and so it was cool to have her there because I got to know her better. And then it was like my best friend Derby wife Healy. And then there's Liza who went to college with rebel and their friends and like I'm friends Elisa as well. And but like they knew each other first, and then Oh, my God, my mind was blank. That was it. Yeah, that was it. There were supposed to be two more people there. That's why and then two people couldn't make it. Because there was a COVID Scare scare. So they said, and at first I had like a little hissy fit about it. But then I realized like, that's fine. And then it worked out perfect with the amount of people we had. Yeah, so it was a super fun birthday. And the only thing I would change would be the time of the year but you can't do that because it was my birthday and I was born in the winter.

Rebel:

She always complains about her birthday being in the winter because I want to

Shove:

do like outdoor seating or like when people are like Let's go on a boat. That'd be fun.

Rebel:

I mean, we can always just say like, we're gonna celebrate your birthday in June but you don't like that. No, that sounds out bums out. Yeah. Anyways, so we did that and we had Palm Springs and then when we do

Shove:

um, we went to Madonna and the next weekend.

Rebel:

So Madonna in is like, if you haven't been there, you have to go there. It is the catchiest it is the cutest it has the most delicious food ever there for the food to

Shove:

be honest. Yeah, we did we got like a room that was like most likely haunted because the beds like we forgot one that the beds or we forgot every bed suck. Yeah, but like, but that's okay. So we're sleep of our lives. Worse sleep, like so bad. Like, what?

Rebel:

It was so bad. And that's okay, though. Because it wasn't about the room. Were just like, we just need to get a room to be able to stay there. We

Shove:

just need a room so that we can eat this meal and have a place to like go into a food coma afterwards.

Rebel:

Yeah, but we also explored downtown slow San Luis Obispo.

Shove:

Oh, which I didn't know was also really cute. So cute. Like Palm Springs also has

Rebel:

very good shopping and like just little places. Yeah, fun. So that was really cute. And we had Yeah, very rich food. And then we got cake like at every meal, because it was your thing. And basically, yeah, we just ate a lot.

Shove:

If you go to the Madonna and there is the copper Cafe, which is like on the property. And that's like the breakfast lunch diner. Get the biscuits.

Rebel:

Yeah, the biscuits. Well, so good. They're like, Atticus,

Shove:

you're welcome. They're

Rebel:

so good.

Shove:

Take a bite with their whipped butter and the jelly and you're gonna be like, Thank you shovel for your recommendation.

Rebel:

Yeah, it's it's bomb. It's bomb. And like, I saved mine for last. And then like, I saved it as a leftover and then ate it the next day. And I was like, Man, I should have taken the whole meal as a leftover because this is so delicious. So

Shove:

good. I know. It's like I should got biscuits to go. But it's just like everyone that works there is really friendly. It's nice. The food's delicious. It looks so cute. They have a heated pool and a Jacuzzi that we didn't go into this time. But it's also like you feel very like COVID safe there. And yeah, it was just an amazing experience. And this year is crazy. Like we've already traveled twice.

Rebel:

Yeah, it's wild. And then you also got a tattoo here with a right

Shove:

Yes, I did. Again, why we're putting ourselves in debt this um, I got a giant I guess it's not a full on dollar. But it's like a half so like imagine it starts the middle is my back and then spreads out across my shoulders and goes down. And it was a four hour tattoo with one break and as mostly, you know, I only took that break because my butt was uncomfortable. It wasn't even though I had to get away back. Yeah, and ash kept like saying like her wrist was bothering her. So it was just like let's take a break. I need to stand down. Yeah, So it wasn't exactly the most painful tattoo, it was just that my skin was so angry so mad so swollen. And so when she went back to like do touch ups with all dotwork then she was like, your skin or no like, I was like, oh, and for part like tickled so much. I kept laughing so interesting. And then like there were certain parts where it made me think of when I got my first my second tattoo like the Middle Way back on my spine. I felt it on my inner arm and was it shoots like there your nerves, but it like hurt. Like the pain was there like it did it. It was more like oh, like uncomfortable, not like stabbed. It felt like, I don't know, like a weird pain. I didn't like it like that. I hated that more than the back. Weird. Yeah, nerves are interesting, but interesting. Yeah. So like, I love my back again. It's super awesome. I can't wait to see when it's like fully healed. It's been a week today.

Rebel:

It already looks so good.

Shove:

I'm so excited. Like, she made me want a neck tattoo. Yeah, rebels lips and then. Oh my god. Rubble love is just gonna say oh my god. I told her I was gonna get hurt me I'm like in cursive above my eyebrow.

Rebel:

Do not do that. That's a terrible idea.

Shove:

Come on, babe. Face it, you know? But yeah, so it was a bit a birthday month. Now we got to figure out what to do for rebels because she had gotten tickets to see Adele which was a miracle. And Adele announced that she postponed it so rebels work these Hurst

Rebel:

Yeah. So we were gonna go to the to Vegas for the weekend. And I don't know maybe we'll still go to Vegas for the weekend. I don't know. I don't know.

Shove:

I think we should Airbnb it with friends. So yeah, I

Rebel:

do think that's definitely like my cards for sure.

Shove:

Like a short road trip and stuff. I think that was like the answer. That was the answer. That's a perfect thing. Like if y'all out there like worried about COVID Like, even when we went out it just wasn't busy anywhere. And the one place we went that was like club like we stayed with like the older crowd that was like not the dance floor. And it was like there was no internet. We so we had a whole corner of a bar like bar slash club place, but to ourselves, ourselves. Yeah, it was so cool. So like either go to a town that's kind of secluded if you do want to go out as well. But or if you don't literally like we brought so much alcohol and food to the Airbnb that like, we didn't even have to stay out that long. And we just got like, wasted and played games. And it was so fun. So definitely, like get a group of friends together have them all put in on Airbnb. And that way doesn't come out. So that much money. The place I stayed everyone only had to put 250 and and I told him months ahead so they could save and it worked out perfectly. And when you look at it that way, like it's so much fun. It's not too bad financially, and you can have so much fun. So don't feel like your birthday has to be ruined because of COVID. And it was two nights two. Yeah, that was for two nights. Yeah.

Rebel:

So it's nice. Yeah. But yeah, anyway, so yeah, so that's a cap on cap season.

Shove:

Oh my god. No cap.

Rebel:

No cap, Bo. So next up, is there anything else you want to add to the real world?

Shove:

No, that's it. Um, if it was Anyone's birthday this last month what's up? Hello Capricorns I hope you had a great topic corn season. We're gonna make it through this craziest Aquarius season, and then head into emotional disaster Pisces season, aka party time. And then it's tourist season, right? No, actually, no, he gets tourists after that. And then I'm part Taurus. That's fine.

Rebel:

Is it twice?

Shove:

Oh, I know tour No, April.

Rebel:

No, it's because some people always ask me if I'm the other one, which is whatever it's on the cusp of I can never remember what comes after. Because I'm so self centered. I only think about the Pisces season, but I am in Aquarius moon so it's my time.

Shove:

Yeah. Tell the people all your signs.

Rebel:

Okay. I am a Pisces sun and Aquarius moon and a cancer rising

Shove:

aka shove is screwed

Rebel:

Yeah, well what an emotional

Shove:

wreck I'm with and i love it i Why do you think I said kooky like three times to describe you Yeah. Look at your signs be I know my chart all over the place. Okay, head on over to the wheel.

Rebel:

All right, let's do it

Shove:

though we'll world when we talk about all things ski.

Rebel:

Yeah, roller skating and life.

Shove:

Because skating is life and ski Die motherfucker, am I right? Alright, so I bet a lot of you haven't heard of something super epic, that's going to happen. But first I want to talk about, like, way back when I think season one we had talked about if we believed, and me and rebel had a great disagreement in this, and it was about if rollerskating should have competitions Do you remember that? Ma'am? Yeah,

Rebel:

I do remember that.

Shove:

I'm like, do you think like, and you were like, yes. 100%. And I was like, I don't know. Because like, I'm worried that that will become the main thing is just like sponsorships kind of like, create the separatism. Like, it didn't skateboarding. So

Rebel:

yeah, I mean, I don't know. Because the as things are, like, evolving, I feel like it's not everyone that's trying to be in these competitions. So I feel like it's not creating a separatism, but more like, you know, they're just people that would like to compete, and they're like, working their butts off at the skate park and stuff, and they should be rewarded for that.

Shove:

Alright, so everyone listening, I hope you're listening around the world. Like we're like, we have people listening, right? We might, we might. Alright, so get out your calendar, get a pen, get a pencil, write this down. Um, April 28. Through may 1 in Santa Ana, California, will be the first quad competition. Oh, my gosh, this year. What does that mean? What's that mean? Show the quad Cup, the quad cup. Wow, the quad cup. So we heard a blading cup, we talked about blading cup because we were at the last one. It's an annual thing that they have, which like literally people fly out. And it's all in line sleep skated.

Rebel:

And they compete. And they do all these crazy tricks. And they do lots and lots of different styles of inlining. And it's wild.

Shove:

And apparently all this past one was the most like roller skaters that ever showed up. Like to support there used to be like this, like whole divide kind of another scene like, oh, wait, we do all get along, and we support each other. And people started talking to people. And now there is going to be a quad cub within it, which is epic for rollerskating. Yeah, it's so epic. Yeah. And as you know, my stance was like, I don't know, like, I'm hesitant. But I think like I also had mentioned before, I do believe that people should be rewarded that like literally see, the sport is something that's like, super athletic competitive, like once would be like, Look, I am the best at something, I put the work and and I think that's great. And I just remember, want people to know that, like, when you excel and you grow, and you learn these things and become so epic, and like a freaking beast that like you also teach someone else, all those things and are accepting and don't like gatekeeping all those skills to yourself, like, don't want the competition get to you like we should all want everyone to rise up. And it shouldn't be a fight for sponsorships or shouldn't be a fight for the money necessarily, like I want to see all out there competing and like rooting each other on and like showing them how they can improve their skills. And I want the community to still hold on to that and not let the money and the glam glam of it all like get to them. So that's the only thing I would say like advice wise going into this. And as long as that remains there, remember, like what the skate community really stands for that I am. So for this competition happening.

Rebel:

I think I have an interesting perspective now that I didn't have when we first talked about this. And that is that. So like right now and like a little bit before this. In the dance skate community. There is like a lot more competition than ever existed before, not for sponsorships, but for like gigs. So like commercial gigs, and just like, you know, random gigs. And I do think that it kind of fosters this, like, competitiveness between people that I don't love. Like, I think that it's kind of like weird, but I do know that that's like, not something that everyone who's in that world has adopted, right? Like, I know plenty of people who go out for jobs, and aren't at all like, resentful or weird towards other people who are also going out for jobs. And so I do think that it is possible and that it's just about like how people react to it. Right? Like, okay, there's this awesome opportunity. Now let's make sure that we're seeing it as this thing that's building our community and providing more value opportunities within our community instead of something that we should like, push everyone else aside and try and grab, you know, and I think that, you know, that really is happening. And so I definitely think that it's possible. And I totally believe in the skate community, and I think we will be able to,

Shove:

exactly, yeah, let's not turn into what happened to skateboarding. And don't also let what happened to the blading community back in the 90s. And don't be get taken advantage of when you do become like that skater that wins everything and like, has your name on all these products and doesn't get vaccine, you know, a company kind of owns your name and ideas. So just let's make sure that as we grow, that we learn from the people that came before us, and like we learn from those mistakes, and don't repeat them, and that way, we can uplift it and show it like and be like, and maybe we can have those effects and other sports. So that would be kind of cool.

Rebel:

Yeah. And I do think it's like, I don't know, I just see so many skaters, especially Park skaters right now that I'm like, damn, like you are, are so incredibly talented. And you deserve the right. To Yeah, be recognized for all the things that you're accomplishing. And I think that having a competition that isn't algorithm based, right, so like, I know so many dope quad skaters who I'm like, honestly flabbergasted every time they post anything because they're so so talented. But they have so few followers, so like people don't see how awesome they are. Yeah, and I think that those skaters deserve the spotlight. You know, like, I think people need to know their names. People need to know how awesome they are. And like, give them the avenue to like name a trick or you know, like that kind of stuff. I think that that's the really awesome part about this.

Shove:

Yeah, um, I don't know. I'm like stoked because I feel like there's so many people that like fly in for this and like, give it their all like I've been joking with Hebei at work, I'm like, how's your training going? I like it'll also be fun because like, if it's anything like just regular blading Cup, which I should be is like with blading cup there was open ski so like people could like skate the course for fun and stuff like that. And if that happens to be so much fun and like, all feel like oh, I'll maybe I'll go out there for fun. And I don't know like I have ended with moxie at this last one. And I'm excited to do that again and be even more successful and have more stuff because like there were so many skaters and now it'll be even more and I'm super pumped to meet everyone that comes out to be so epic. So awesome. I'm like hoping Barbie PITINO comes out again. I'm in Carolina from Columbia comes out. Like I hope he gets some people from the East Coast. Like, I really want it to be epic. I want it to be like skate park version of roller con. Yeah,

Rebel:

that would be so cool.

Shove:

Also, like, I played in cup, there was like a film thing that like, I wish I would have went to but I was like, I don't know if I want to be like in this theater with all these people. So I didn't go but I kind of regretted it because I guess there was some really good like films that played and it was kind of like back to back showings. And they summer were like documentaries of airliners. And some are just like skate films, which is super cool. And like, if we could do that for like, rollerskating I think that'd be epic. So I hope like some are already in the process of being made. Or even if they were like, Let's just show like Ghoulia Carly clay Craig's street fighters. I know Street Fighters I was gonna say Ghost Town, like Ghost Town, which I wish was longer because it's so epic and then like, spoiled with freakin Street Fighters making great making gravy one and two. Oh, they tell you that I found the second one. What? No, there's a second one. We watched it. We were bleeding cut. Dope. Yeah. So there's like two of those. There's some other ones I think I'm moko came out with came out with one. Oh, yeah, yeah, I need to watch that one. But there's like so many rollerskating if y'all don't try to look on YouTube, you can find on there's just not as many as there are in like, skateboarding has like millions, of course. And like there's millions, I'm sure or hundreds of 1000s of like bleeding and line ones. But like roller skaters we need to get out in there. The filmmaking Yeah, like, as well as things like I wish I could do but I need to be more confident and like, skating on more terrains to like keep up with people, but I think it'd be so dope to learn how to like film skaters. I'd be so down because like, I see things and like the way it like angles and stuff. Like, I want to be able to do that. Like I want to be able to do that for the community. It would be so

Unknown:

awesome. That'd be so so so awesome. Hey, yeah, so quietkat I'm

Shove:

super excited. There's also Camp. Awesome coming up. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And we'll probably like, talk about that more next week. But

Rebel:

yeah, I don't know enough information about it to be able to talk about it now. Yeah. And then like quad cup.

Shove:

Like, there's stuff I might know that I'm just not going to talk about right now. But quad cups come in. And the only reason I'm talking about it, and because it's on the internet, you can see it so I'm not giving away too much information. But yes, like, ah, the first quad cup that I hope is freaking like an annual quad cup. That would be so sick

Rebel:

that he says like, I think it'll happen. I really do think it'll happen.

Shove:

Yeah. And I think that maybe somebody that has a YouTube channel should maybe go live there.

Rebel:

Yeah, yeah, definitely. I think someone who has a YouTube channel could potentially go

Shove:

like either go live there or make the most epic video I maybe both. Like it needs to be documented. Yeah, it'll definitely be documented for sure. Like, we might need to hire a backup filmer just to like get the air of backup filmer. Jesse where you are. Yeah, like, just like we needed the awkward skater aka dammit, Jesse getting photos like, oh my god, big stuff. We tell them like, higher peep Jesse for media kid. They're, like, we need to get all these roller skater like filmmakers and photographers out there. Like, this would be awesome. It's gonna be in Dog Days. I bet. Like we need to make sure that like we show up and show out and like all these in liners are gonna be like, for the roller skate culture. Yeah. For a little receipt culture. Do it for the culture. Yeah. Alright. So yeah,

Rebel:

that's get stoked and get pumped. Because that's, we're excited. Yeah,

Shove:

we're gonna talk about it. We more we get closer to it. Yeah.

Rebel:

So that is the real world. All right, our next segment is called Trick of the Week. This week, shove has brought our chick of the week to the front.

Shove:

This is the segment where we find the hottest skater and we're like, that's the trick of them. There the trick

Rebel:

is a segment where we show you a cool trick that we've chosen from the week. All right, so so

Shove:

all the time. I'm like on Instagram, as y'all know. And like for me, I live in the stories because that's how I feel like I get to know everyone and see the coolest stuff and then like people reshare to their stories like people I don't follow so I see these epic things. And then I might send it to rebel because I wasn't really on it as much or I think she goes sweat on the feet a little bit more.

Rebel:

Yeah, I go on the feet a little bit more, but I'm really work involved right now you post more than I think he's scroll scroll. Yes. Yeah, I definitely post more than I scroll.

Shove:

So there. Okay, so rollers skate together on Instagram roller skate dot together. reshared a video of MADI via Diego. That I m a r i v i ll a Diego di e to the n sis Fairless with a flame emoji. Do you remember the spam?

Rebel:

A white. Okay. Okay, that's insane. i How many skateboards is that?

Shove:

Yes. So there is 1234 skateboards piled on top of each other not standing. We're talking about on their sides. Oh my god, they just skate up and they jump over it. Yes. And their legs are like to the side that just air straight over it. And then you see like the skateboarders going wild for them. And it's just like, hops. It's so epic and hold like amazing. How many box jumps did you do? Like right now? I'm calling so their name is Maria Victoria. Um, they I'm so impressed. Yes, they I think they're in another country. I'm not sure where they have a YouTube too. But yes, this skater insane. Epic epic. Like how do you just fly through the airlines? They

Rebel:

gotta have gotten like a lot of momentum from something right to get onto that.

Shove:

Well, one you have to have amazing speed to

Rebel:

and you have to like get you have to practice. That's so high. That's so high. Like I think I can't even I can't even jump like it. I was gonna say a parking like stop. Like Yeah or a code you

Shove:

can jump a parking stop because you can we can both jump over a helmet. Yeah, I know I just get freaked out. And you can jump high mental though. Like you could jump over a comb standing up you could definitely like you get if you think you're gonna speed because you do jump really high, like and that's on flat ground without even going like having a transition to launch you up.

Rebel:

I am just I'm, I don't think that's true, but I would love for that to be true videos out there. I think that that whenever you can jump over things like that. I'm just like mind blown and like, how do you not psych yourself out? Like, I'm just like, that's so cool.

Shove:

Yeah, the video is in slow mo. So like, we don't know, in real time, like how that

Rebel:

I mean, they were I'm sure going extremely fast. Like, like, there's Okay, so it does look. So it's not as steep. But that is an incline. So maybe there's something that they're going down. Yeah, they probably they're going down something and then they went yeah, and that's probably I mean even doing that like I even the thing it how and where you go down the big thing. And then you go over a little hump and then you go out like I still am like, how do I even get higher out of that, but like there, oh my god, incredible.

Shove:

What I don't get at Houghton is, you would think, I don't know, maybe it's the launch of having a tire up. So you would think in my mind, I would want to roll down the tall pyramid, get that massive speed and then go up the little ones and jump over something. Or maybe not because it's too little humps. But people start from one side of a mountain if you've been there like and then they get a lot of speed. They go down to many tiny little ramp things. And then they shoot up this really tall freak impairment and that's where they jump over trashcans

Rebel:

No, you want to know why though. It's because that actually that like small incline and then the another incline that actually gives you so much speed like I have totally enjoyed it there before. And I was actually scared of it for a long time because I like when I was too new. I refuse to start at the top, I would start on the bottom I was too new because you actually do get a lot of speed. So I'm assuming that like you get the speed from going down and then when you're going up like that's part of the launching process is you going up? Yeah. And then you pump out of it. And that's how you get over the trashcan but I've actually never tried jumping over anything at the top of that. And now I want to

Shove:

you should definitely try you know, that's where that side where the two inclines are on the other side. There's one and then it steps and that's the one that Ash thought there were was a ramp on the other side. And she was forced to jump those stairs and landed it amazing. was like don't psych yourself out, you know, like, but like good on her for knowing to just jump just like yeah, because Natalie, don't try and stop. If that's cool. You won't even be able to like or just skate just like oh no, I guess I'm skating down.

Rebel:

Oh, no. Oh, no, thank you. Oh, God, no, I do know people who like have skated down stairs and I'm like, How does that even like, how do you? I don't know. How do you not just like, like, slip out and then banana back and like hit your head? I don't know. But

Shove:

I don't know. It's crazy. But um,

Rebel:

but anyways, yeah. So

Shove:

for me. And in showing rebel I would say that's my Trick of the Week is flying over what was that five skateboard

Rebel:

or skateboard before on their sides? Yeah, that's definitely the Trick of the Week. So you can expect us telling you about things like that. And then we'll post that will ask to repost it. Well as to repost it. And if they don't let us repost it, we'll post it in our stories so you can see it.

Shove:

Yeah, Hekia a few SEO trick that you liked. Share it, tag us in the share. And that way we can share it too.

Rebel:

Yeah, yeah, for sure. tag us in it. Let us know. Get us get our eyeballs on those cool tricks, so we could talk about them, huh? All right. Let's move on to the next section All right, this segment so excited about this. Oh, Lord. Okay, this segment is our obsession. So what are we obsessed with this week? Do you want to go first or do you want me to go first?

Shove:

I'll go first. Okay, maximalism and not like obviously what's in my house fashion. I have like today I went into like a hashtag on Tik Tok. and was just like obsessed with like, fashionistas that dress like insane. Oh hobo chic over top high fashion mixed with like thrifted goodness, like, I am obsessed, like one and because we call them it's like I want to know this person's life story. Like I want to know what their neighbor is think I want to know like what people at the grocery store think when someone walks around. And like a poufy dress with a sequined miniskirt wrapped around them and like a giant scrunchie that's as big as a clown collar. But they also have a clown collar. But then they also have like two hats on and glasses and mittens. And like $1,000 shoes on and I want to know like everything like how how they came to be like that. I think it's amazing. Like some outfits. I'm like, okay, but a lot of them are like works of art. And like I am for it like I am obsessed with it and makes me want to dress like more kooky less the word of the day. Like it really it makes me want to push those fashion like, limits. It makes me want to do more like more crazy like makeup and be centric and be like, I want people to see me and be like, Oh, what the fuck? Or oh my god is so cool. Like, I want people to be like What the fuck? And I think that's so like shocking and cool. It makes people like question why we all have to look the same and who says what fashion is. And like, there's this one I can't remember name. But there's this one person that got me like super obsessed with it on Tik Tok. And she said this quote that, like I've heard my whole life, about how Coco Chanel said before, whenever a woman leaves the house, she should remove one item from her outfit, because it's all the whole, like, less is more. And she said, but I like to say that before you leave the house, you add one more item, and then she'll like throw a necklace on or a ring or like something and I'm like, That's awesome.

Rebel:

I love that. And I definitely will say so I on my tic tock I started doing like Get Ready With Me videos. It's only been like three, but I really, really like them. And I'm having so much fun with them. And doing that has made me feel the same way that you're talking about which is this like, Wait, I don't have a bag. I don't have sunglasses. I don't have like a necklace that I'm adding to this. And so it's made me add more to what I'm doing and in turn has made me like how I look. Every single every single day that I've done like a get ready with me. I've been like I'm stoked on this. Yeah. And I'm like, Dude, why haven't been I've been doing this whole time.

Shove:

I'm just like a firm believer and if you look good on the outside, like you feel good on the inside. And like, and that's not like oh, looks at everything. Like I'm talking about the way you decorate your temple. Like when people are always like, your body is your temple don't blah, blah. Like I'm not talking about the religious aspect. I'm talking about like your body's your temple and you live here, so why not decorate it? So I thought on the set to use dye your hair do something crazy. were crazy prints that people say you can't wear together? If you're like this, I'm stoked on it. Where it like who cares what other people say? Because you're gonna look in the mirror be like, Oh my god, I look so cool right now. Little middle school me is freaking the fuck out. And then you know, you did a good job.

Rebel:

I Yes. Okay, so yeah, so that actually trails really good into what I was. Okay, so my obsession is people doing inner child healing. Yes, I know, I have been watching all these people online being like, this heals my inner child, and I love it. And it's like, basically, it's like, people doing things that either they were never allowed to, or they feel like, it wasn't like, cool or acceptable or anything for them to do it while they were younger. So then as an adult, they're like, I'm going to dress like this, I'm gonna buy this toy. I'm gonna, you know, engage in this activity that like they didn't have the opportunity, or for some reason there was something like blocking them from it. And so they do activities, or they were thing that like, makes their inner child happy. And that creates some sort of healing. Yeah, so it's just like so the one that I saw today was someone who was wearing literally they looked like a character in a kid's TV show. Like they were wearing this rainbow overalls and they were wearing like beads on their Crocs and they were wearing like ponytails and they were like, This is how my inner child wants me to dress and I feel so happy about it and I was like, okay, and then like that, that toy that a lot of people getting on tick tock where it's like a mat. It's a magic potion and it like

Shove:

you make to make your like your friend Yeah, like make

Rebel:

you like create a spell and you like do this to create a pet and then like a stuffed animal comes from it. And people are like, this is my feeling my inner child like my inner child needs this. And it's made me think like, Oh, what are the things that like as I was a child that I really wanted, but can never get. And like, one of the things is like, like these random foods that I was never allowed to get. Because growing up poor, it was like, we can't afford that. And so like, for me, I like to go to like the grocery store. And then wherever at the grocery store, I like to get random things like these pinwheels which aren't even really that good, really aren't what only my mom was allowed to have them and, and my mom was only allowed to have them like occasionally. And like I would try and steal them and stuff. And like I would never get them. And so for me like buying those pinwheels, and like eating them is like healing my inner child. And I love seeing other people doing that. And I just think it's so happy. I'm totally obsessed with it. I think it's awesome. I think it's great that we're all collectively being like, yeah, like we've seen some shit. We've been through some shit. So Let's heal our inner child together. Like it's so awesome.

Shove:

I love that.

Rebel:

Yeah, I love it. That's what I'm obsessed with this week. Alright, so get obsessed with it if you don't already. Yeah. And tell us what your obsessions are this week, because we love to hear it. Also, let

Shove:

us know how you heal your inner child.

Rebel:

Yeah, yeah. And I'll think of more ways. I mean, I'm just gonna keep doing. I think it's so awesome. We'll meet you in the comments. We'll meet you in the comments. We'll see you there. So that escape date. That's how these episodes are gonna go. Did you like

Shove:

I did? Oh, one thing we want to also mention is we're gonna try to do more Live episodes, or no, yeah, we forgot to say that. So like that way we can really engage with y'all. We'll advertise it ahead of time. And we will go live on YouTube. And we'll just like take that audio, and we're gonna figure it out. We'll take the audio and like, post it. So it'll be in real time. We might edit that actually, the audio part that goes on just podcast was we'll probably edit it. Yeah, but YouTube, it'll just be like live.

Rebel:

Yeah, so we're gonna do that. And that's actually like earlier, I forgot to say, when you have like your shovel questions, or if you wanted to do a find your skate date, you can totally do them during that time. And we'll honor those, and we'll respond to them. And so if you're missing those things, don't worry, we'll have the opportunity to do that. In fact, during those lives, we'll try and do them occasionally. So it's not just once a year, like we've done one, I think. So we're gonna do more

Shove:

than Yeah, we do like the new template that we're working off. And also just wanted to say, I really wanted to change the music and do some things different and then I realized it was vacation. I'm not doing shit. So we'll still probably work on it, which means it might be halfway through the season. But whether it doesn't happen soon, or it happens over spring break, I I do want to change a few things. So

Rebel:

so if the music changes or something like Don't be scared, be scared because it's just us. Yeah, it's just we're the same. It's not the wrong podcast. Yeah, it's Don't worry about it.

Shove:

Feels good to be back. Um, yeah, I

Rebel:

guess we missed you. Yeah, and if you want to support us

Shove:

happy three year anniversary, everyone. Well, not three year we're going into three years but a two year anniversary going into three years. Three years, guys. A big deal. Don't start asking me if we're going to get engaged or not.

Rebel:

Yeah, cuz I haven't even done. We're about to hit four years.

Shove:

Exactly. So y'all gonna be waiting but it was really fun.

Rebel:

Happy two year anniversary, everyone. Happy beginning of three seasons.

Shove:
